Greetings from the President
‘한송이 국화꽃을 피우기 위해 봄부터 소쩍새는 그렇게 울었나 보다’
4번의 공고 끝에 출범한 35대의 한인회장으로서의 취임사 첫마디였습니다. 그렇게 출발했던 35대 시카고 한인회를 뒤로 하고 새로운 36대 한인회가 시작 되었습니다.
중요한 과거는 존중하되 집착하지 않을 것이며, 현재는 소중하게 생각하되 안주하지 않을 것이며, 우리의 미래인 차세대와 함께 미래 지향적인 한인회를 만들어 나갈 것이라고 35대 취임식 때 시카고 동포 여러분 앞에서 선서 했었습니다. 지금 그 내용을 상기해 보니 참으로 숨가쁘게 달려왔던 35대의 일들이 주마등처럼 떠오릅니다.
한인회관의 매각과 구입, 차세대 활성화와 한인회 정관 개정 등 세 가지의 큰 목표를 향해 달렸습니다. 동포 여러분의 많은 협력과 응원, 그리고 헌신해준 임원들과 이사진들의 힘에 한인회는 안정적인 발전을 하고 있으며, 많은 부분이 달성되어가고 있다고 생각합니다. 그리고 한인 동포사회의 미래를 위해 꼭 필요한 목표들을 완성하기를 바라는 많은 분들의 응원과 지지속에 저는 오늘 이 자리에 다시 서게 되었습니다
제 36대 시카고 한인회는 출범과 함께 눈앞에 닥친 큰 과제들이 있습니다. 한인회관의 리모델링, 시카고 다운타운 한가운데서 한국의 전통문화를 대대적으로 알리는 K-Festival, 우리의 미래를 짊어질 차세대 활성화 등 남은 소중한 과제들의 달성을 위해 초심을 저버리지 않고 노력하겠습니다. 36대 한인회는100여개의 크고 작은 시카고 동포 단체들의 다양한 활동들을 적극적으로 후원하고 지원하겠습니다. 또한 상호간의 조율과 협력을 위해 최선을 다할 것입니다.
존경하는 시카고 동포 여러분! 앞으로 해 나갈 2년간의 한인회 일들은 한인회 자체만으로는 결코 가능하지 않습니다. 우리 모두가 서로 믿고 신뢰하고 힘을 합하여 더 나은 미래를 향해 나아가고자 하는 초심을 잃지 않는다면 반드시 달성이 될 것이라고 믿습니다.
35대 임기 동안 수없이 외쳤던 슬로건은 36대 임기 기간에도 지속될 것입니다.
하나로, 미래로! Better, Together!

‘It seems that the Scop owl has been crying like that since spring to make a single chrysanthemum flower bloom.’
It was the opening of my inaugural address as the 35th president of the KAAC. The 35th Chicago Korean Association chapter has come to a close, and the new 36th Korean Association has begun.
At the 35th inauguration ceremony, I made an oath in front of our Chicago compatriots that we will respect the important past but not be obsessed with it, cherish the present but not settle down, and create a future-oriented Korean Association together with the next generation, our future, in mind. Now, when I reflect on the past term, it reminds me of the things I’ve been working really hard to accomplish the past two years.
We had three main goals: the sale and purchase of the Korean Community Center, the revitalization of the next generation, and the revision of the Korean Association's articles of association. With a lot of cooperation and support from compatriots, and the power of dedicated executives and board members, the Korean Association is making stable development, and I think many parts are being achieved. And with the encouragement and support of many people who want to complete the goals that are essential for the future of the Korean community, I am proudly standing here again today.
The 36th Chicago Korean Association has big challenges ahead of its launch. We will do our best without abandoning our original intentions to achieve the remaining important tasks, such as remodeling the Korean Community Center, hosting K-Festival that widely publicizes traditional Korean culture in the middle of downtown Chicago, and revitalizing the next generation that will lead our future. The 36th Korean Association will actively support various activities of over 100 large and small Chicago compatriot groups. We will also do our best for mutual coordination and cooperation.
Dear compatriots of Chicago! The work of the Korean Association for the next two years is never possible with the Korean Association itself. I believe that if we all believe in each other, trust each other, and join forces to move toward a better future,
we will surely achieve this.
The slogan that was shouted countless times during the 35th term will continue during the 36th term.
